Powertrain Warranty vs. Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty: What to Expect

Buying a car for the first time is exciting, but you shouldn't forget to read the fine print and understand what your warranty covers before leaving the lot with your new car. Warranties are meant to protect the customer in case there are manufacturer defects, previous accidents with a pre-owned vehicle, or other issues that can damage your vehicle through no fault of your own.

The powertrain warranty is the most important because it covers the most expensive parts of your car: the engine and transmission. If you have any issues with your car within the first 60,000 miles, your powertrain warranty should cover the repairs.

However, you may also get a bumper-to-bumper warranty that covers most of what's inside of your car, like the electrical system, air conditioning system, and audio. However, bumper-to-bumper is considered industry jargon so you may want to follow-up on what that exactly means and read through your warranty before signing anything.
